The
American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) website provides a wealth of information
for consumers on specific gemstones, enhancements to gemstones, coordinating
colored gemstones with fashion, and so forth.
Spectacular
gem and jewelry treasures are available for purchase by the public through this
website from the dealer Reginald C. Miller, Inc., “considered by the trade to
be one of the world’s leading cutters and merchants of important quality
natural precious colored gemstones.
I
worked for the Diamond Cellar jewelry store in Columbus, OH, before I moved to
Kansas City. The Diamond Cellar is one
of the largest independent – that is, not a part of a chain – jewelry stores in
the United States. It carries high-end
jewelry designer lines and about 20 Swiss watch lines.
The
Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the premier educational institution
in the world for the gem and jewelry industries. I earned my Graduate Gemologist diploma from GIA. Look for the “How to Buy a Diamond” page on
this website.
The
National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) is the only appraisal
association in the United States that is devoted solely to gems and
jewelry. I have belonged to NAJA since
2003.
Pala
International, located in Fallbrook, CA, sells – retail as well as wholesale –
gems, precious stones, and mineral specimens and has long been involved with
mining tourmaline in San Diego county.
Take
a look at their online buying guides for gems, their pages for collectors, and
the articles from their “Learning Vault” on their homepage.
The
Pricescope website is a consumer advocate site that provides information on
diamond prices and price comparisons, access to a diamond knowledge base, and
forums for consumers as well as experts.
